Dear NTCs Managing Directors:
As you are aware, there has been an increase in training requirements over the past couple of years. NTCs cumulative utilization percentage has reached around 75% with expectation that demand will continue to rise as result of positive economic environment Nation Wide and growth within many sectors including that of Saudi Aramco.
Thus and to ensure readiness of our NTCs to cope with expected growth, LWDD would like to work with NTCs on the following items to ensure agility to meet expectations:
1. NTCs ability and plans to increase capacity which could be derived from availing more teaching space (space optimization), acquisition of new buildings, implementing hybrid teaching methods and introducing new shifts.
2. Ability to introduce new programs and technologies (i.e. 3D printing, automation industry, robotics, etc.) as per emerging industries
3. Utilizing immersive learning platforms, virtual reality (VR), simulation, blended learning, etc.
Answer
NITI’s ability and plans to increase capacity which could be derived from availing more teaching space (space optimization)
NITI has established 144 classrooms and 59 workshops since the opening of the institute. Initially, workshop can accommodate 12 trainees as maximum. However, when expansion project started in 2019, a maximum of 18 trainees per group can be accommodated due to modification and restructuring the workshops in G Building that contributes a lot of opportunities to accommodate more trainees.
B-Building has been modified for scaffolding and non-metals for six (6) groups
143 types of equipment were provided in the initial stage.
During the expansion project, extra equipment was purchased and utilized some of the unused equipment.
With the existing of 15 training programs and the additional special courses, 93% of the equipment was utilized.
Currently, NITI has a total of 24 Diploma (2-year), 17 Associate (6/9/12 months) and 6 special/short courses.
Acquisition of new buildings
· Workshops were converted into multi-purpose workshops in all disciplines due to high demand from clients.
· Metal workshop expansion project by increasing the capacity from 12 to 16 trainees per group for optimization purposes
· Deliver FCAW training for welding program
· Utilize 73% of the unused equipment
Established new workshops:
HVAC
Heat Exchanger
Heavy Equipment Training Area
Implementing hybrid teaching methods and introducing new shifts.
NITI has started hybrid teaching methods during the pandemic period, and it was a success. There are certain class sessions that trainees need to report to NITI during performance test and do online class during theoretical sessions. Short courses and advanced special courses including remedial class were conducted through virtual class in compliance with the pandemic safety measures and part of alternative learning delivery.
NITI also started shifting class schedules, i.e., from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The shifting class schedules were conducted to give trainees better improvement in Metals training and to maximize instructional staff’s teaching expertise.
Ability to introduce new programs and technologies (i.e., 3D printing, automation industry, robotics, etc.) as per emerging industries.
